Does more miles per gallon sound like it’s of interest to you? It surely is to me. Here are easy to employ tips for more conservative driving. Use them alone or in combining with others to help you be a big fuel saver. Think of it as all part of being better prepared for the next increase in prices at the pump.
Try these for better fuel economy:
- Stay near the speed limit – you’ll fight less resistance from the air in front of you at lower speeds, and that will improve your fuel economy. A reduction in those pricey “written performance awards” from law enforcement will also be a welcome sign of betterment in your driving habits.
- Don’t fight head winds – the better approach is to slow down. Again, you won’t consume fuel fighting so much wind resistance, and you’ll stay in better control of your vehicle. Save cash and perhaps save your life. Those seem like two great ideas to me.
- Keep tires in the right manner inflated – to get good fuel economy, longer tread wear, and proper handling characteristics. It’s a winner idea all the way around.
- Lose the weight – the more weight you ask your vehicle to haul around, the more it costs you in fuel. Carry only that which is necessary in your vehicle. For littler cars, if you carry an extra 200 pounds, you might get 2 to 4 less miles per gallon.
Regardless of the “cost at the pump”, I’ve always liked the idea of keeping more cash in my pocket rather of unnecessarily giving it to an energy company. The decision is all yours since it’s your money. My suggestion is to let your cash take you further by practicing these more conservative driving techniques.
